My Story
I used to think my English was quite strong.
I did well in English at secondary school and felt comfortable with tests and exams. The real turning point came when I joined an English-speaking summer camp in Form 5.
As soon as I had to communicate in English, I completely froze. I knew what I wanted to say, but I could not turn my thoughts into words. I struggled even to tell a simple story. I still remember how awkward and frustrated I felt.
That experience made me realise that getting good grades was very different from being able to use English confidently. From then on, I decided to put real effort into improving my English. I wanted to do more than pass exams. I wanted to express myself clearly and speak without fear.
Over the years, I experimented with many different ways of learning and made plenty of mistakes along the way. I later received scholarships to study in Denmark, the UK and the US. Each experience pushed me a little further outside my comfort zone and helped me build confidence step by step.
What began as a personal effort to overcome my own difficulties eventually led me to become an English teacher. Today, I hope to share what I have learnt and help others find a more practical and encouraging way to learn English.
If you find it difficult to speak English, it does not mean that you are lazy or lack ability. Sometimes, you simply need an approach that works for you and a safe space where you can practise, make mistakes and gradually find your voice.
